My Toughest Challenge

My biggest challenge as a type one diabetic thus far has been transitioning from pediatric endocrinology to adult endocrinology. It isn't talked about enough. You're too old at the age of 18 to be considered a pediatric patient, but are you really an adult. Oh wait, it doesn't matter because the adult endocrinologists don't want you either.

I took me three years from the time I turned 18 to find a committed and reliable adult endocrinologist. It first took me a year to even find someone who would give me an appointment. It took me another two years to weed through the bad endocrinologists. From grabbing my insulin pump and changing every setting without even asking me or telling me they were doing it. To the endocrinologists who don't want to stay in one place long enough.

It is so hard to find endocrinologists that want to care for non-pediatric non-adult patients.
